Our Christmas decorations, made by hand in India
When you buy our hand-made Christmas decorations, you're helping the women of Ladiapur and Ambi villages in India, make a dignified and sustainable living.
The women of these villages use their sewing skills to bring us beautiful and hand-crafted decorations for you to adorn your tree and home this Christmas. This is made possible by donations from the Lady Bamford Charitable Trust, and you will not find them anywhere else.
The Lady Bamford Charitable Trust (LBCT), was founded in 2006 to provide the skills which in time will enable developing villages in India to stand on their own two feet; to improve quality of life within the villages and to provide education for women and children.
The Trust provides two villages, Ladiapur and Ambi, with financial support for development within their communities. The villages now have basic necessities, that we often take for granted, such as running water, toilets, electricity and roads - greatly improving the quality of day to day living. The sewing schools have been equipped with sewing machines and hand-looms; English teachers and computers have been donated to the schools and life skill classes for women and children have been introduced. There is now a doctor’s surgery to ensure villagers can receive medical attention and advice.
Children have the opportunity to attend summer camps and excursions, they now have English books for their library and there is a play school. The school in Ladiapur has created a kitchen garden where they grow their own vegetables, learn about the benefits of organic farming and also cooking skills.
At Daylesford, we work alongside the Lady Bamford Charitable Trust and the villages creating special artisan items. We help in design stages and sourcing of the materials and always ensure they receive a fair price in return for their work, so that the development in these villages continues. We are committed to supporting developing communities and brining about change, in a way that is both ethical and sustainable.
Look out for our favourite animals from the farm and English countryside, a traditional Christmas stocking (ready to be filled with goodies) and a wall-hanging advent calendar for a treat a day in the build up to Christmas.
