Why is organic better?

Better for our health

Organic farming means that food is produced the way nature intended; free from gm, artificial additives, fertilisers, growth promoters and herbicides.

Organic food contains more of the good stuff we need – like vitamins and minerals – and less of the bad stuff that we don’t – like pesticides and additives.

Researchers have found that children whose mothers were exposed to organophosphate (used on fruit on vegetables) while pregnant were more likely to have attention problems as they grew up. The study, published in Environmental Health Perspectives, adds to evidence that some pesticides can affect the human brain.

Better for our animals

Organic farming increases the natural health status of our animals.

Organic animals live contented lives. They roam freely and graze on organic land and are fed food free of pesticides. They never receive artificial growth promoters; reducing the amount of chemicals we give animals reduces the amount we then put into our own bodies.

All products from our farm have been certified organic by the Soil Association with the exception of game birds, quail eggs and honey where no certification exists (bees are free to fly and take pollen and nectar for up to a 4 mile radius).

Better for our environment

The UK government has stated that organic farming is better for wildlife, causes lower pollution and produces less dangerous wastes whilst preserving healthy soil.

Organic farming improves soil condition, making crops more resilient to drought and water logging, for a better harvest.

Organic growing methods lock up more carbon under the ground, and don’t depend on energy-intensive, fossil fuel-based fertilisers.

...and always taste better

All our kitchens are certified organic by the Soil Association (only true of a handful of establishments around the country).

Organic standards ban the use of nasty additives such as MSG, tartrazine and hydrogenated fat common to supermarket prepared food – much more appetising!

It’s common sense that less chemicals in our food is simply better for us, and we believe it always tastes better.
