Our animals

We care deeply about animal welfare. We breed and rear contented, healthy livestock: their welfare is paramount. This includes a herd of fully organic farmed deer for venison, seasonal game, pedigree Aberdeen Angus beef: traditional native breeds of sheep; heritage and rare breeds of pig and organic, free-range poultry for succulent chickens.


We allow our animals to mature naturally at their own pace, ranging freely over our organic pasture. Their diet is entirely natural. Chemicals, hormones and artificial growth promoters are prohibited: when they need medicine, they are treated homeopathically. Compassionate farming produces animals in prime condition, which in turn produces better meat.

Our Butcher

Daylesford Organic THE BUTCHER on Pimlico road is refreshingly traditional. It’s the sort of place where shoppers will see real meat – game in season, carcases and cuts of meat on display – and an ageing room, where you can actually see the meat hanging, maturing properly.


We are dedicated to preserving the traditional skills and expertise of the butchery trade. Our skilful butchers are only too happy to share their specialist knowledge, and assist you in your enquiries, including requests for plucking, ageing specific cuts of meat, placing an order and requesting home delivery or enjoying a masterclass with friends or work colleagues.

Our organic meat

Aberdeen Angus

For years we’ve been proud of our organic beef from our Staffordshire estate; now we have established a pedigree Aberdeen Angus herd at Daylesford. The creation of a new herd gives us carte blanche to adopt best practice and the finest bloodlines.

Venison

Daylesford Organic's herd of farmed red deer is very rare indeed, in that it is licensed as fully organic by the Soil Association. Our red deer are free to roam on 350 acres of traditional English oak organic parkland, and are allowed to mature naturally, living full lives, free from antibiotics and pesticides.

Pork

We believe that animals should be allowed to develop at their own pace, on fully organic land, with minimum stress.

Veal

Daylesford’s male dairy calves are allowed to bond with their mothers for nine milkings, and then kept in small groups, drinking the rich organic milk from the herd that contains their mothers. When weaned, they are let out to grass, to roam free.

Lamb

Daylesford Organic sheep are reared on some of the finest pastures in England, which are all organically registered. They develop at their own pace, with the minimum stress - as the excellence of the meat testifies.

Chickens

Our chickens are Sassos, the gourmet’s choice. They are reared by us, on our own organic land, under completely organic standards from a day old. The use of antibiotics and growth promoters is prohibited; our birds mature naturally, and slowly, with the freedom to forage on organic grass clover leys. Whilst most intensively farmed chickens are killed after only forty-two days, Daylesford Organic chickens are reared for twice as long, for a full flavour and distinctive texture. Their quality testifies to the benefits of a natural diet free from artificial additives, and to compassionate farming.

Turkeys

We raise our traditional bronze turkeys on our own farm from birth. They are reared the way turkeys would like to live with plenty of fresh air and open space, free to range and forage. We feed them on an entirely organic diet and they live contented, stress-free lives. We finish our turkeys on our own organic oats, grown on our farm, which gives them their distinctive, exceptional flavour.
